On Saturday May 3rd 2008 the historical market town of Aylsham in Norfolk became 'Plastic Bag Free', the first town in Norfolk. This blog follows the progress of this rural market town's steps. Please return for more information.
We hope you will visit the historic market town of Aylsham, Norfolk's First 'Plastic Bag FREE' Town.
Traders listed on this site have agreed to encourage their customers to bring their own shopping bags and where required use biodegradable bags.
Shoppers in Aylsham are encouraged to bring their own shopping bag.
Norfolk County Council are providing one free shopping bag to each household in Aylsham. These will be available to be picked up from the market place of Aylsham on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 17th May. Times and other information will be announced nearer the time.
Broadland District Council are supplying recycle bins around Aylsham town centre for visitors and businesses to recycle their plastic bags. The aim of the whole scheme is to remove plastic bags from the system, because they are damaging to the environment. We want to encourage everyone to stop using them, especially for lining their bins at home, which means they definitely go to landfill.
